Josh Smith hit a two-run home run, Wyatt Langford had a bases-clearing double and the surging Texas Rangers piled up eight runs in the first three innings in an 8-1 victory over the struggling Atlanta Braves on Sunday.

The Braves' entire Opening Day rotation is now on the injured list, as Grant Holmes went on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. In what’s becoming a lost season for the Braves, it’s somewhat fitting that low point came on a Sunday.

One player who will likely be available is Ozuna, and he could make a lot of sense for a team like the Rangers that is hungry for offense. The designated hitter spot was supposed to be taken care of when the team signed Joc Pederson in the offseason. However, the left-handed slugger has been injured and has struggled when healthy.

Michael Harris II hit a dinger to break the drought in the seventh and then he scored one of two runs for the Braves in the ninth inning. By then, the game was well in hand for Texas after they smacked Rafael Montero for four runs in the eighth inning. Blah.

This is who the Rangers should have been all along. Texas had a disappointing first half of 2025. That much isn’t a secret. But there’s always been belief throughout the clubhouse and throughout the front office that they would right the ship.
