P UTRAJAYA, Malaysia — Thailand and Cambodia agreed Monday to an unconditional ceasefire during a meeting in Malaysia, in a significant breakthrough to resolve five days of deadly border clashes that have killed dozens and displaced tens of thousands.

A ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand appears to be holding, hours after it came into effect at midnight local time (1 p.m. ET Monday), following days of clashes across the two countries’ disputed border.

The leaders of Cambodia and Thailand agreed to a ceasefire in a bid to bring an end to their deadliest conflict in more than a decade.
