The state’s wildlife agency will test the bears’ DNA to determine if any of them had attacked and killed an 89-year-old man.

The Self Defense Act of 2024 allows for the taking of bears, without any penalties, under specific circumstances.

Authorities were searching Monday for a black bear that killed a man and a dog in South Florida. The attack occurred in a rural area east of Naples, just south of Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in a statement.
