Life-threatening and catastrophic flash flooding and landslides are expected in portions of southern Hispaniola and Jamaica through the weekend, the NHC said.

Forecasters are monitoring Tropical Storm Melissa, which is expected to become a “major” hurricane by the end of the weekend.

If Melissa were to eventually turn toward Florida and land here in November, it would be historic.
