New York Islanders rookie Matthew Schaefer broke a record set by future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby with an OT goal against the Utah Mammoth.
SALT LAKE CITY – In a tight battle, the Utah Mammoth fell to the New York Islanders in overtime, 3-2. JJ Peterka and Dylan Guenther (PPG) scored for Utah in the loss.
There will be multiple storylines as the Islanders pull into Denver for Sunday’s meeting with the Avalanche, the fifth game on this seven-stop road trip. Brock Nelson will skate for the first time against the Islanders after playing 901 regular-season games and scoring 295 goals for them.
The New York Islanders won 4-3 in overtime against the Vegas Golden Knights with a shorthanded goal by Jean-Gabriel Pageau, improving their standing in the Eastern Conference.

The Islanders conclude a two-game homestand at Eastlink Centre on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m., against one of the Western Conference’s top clubs, Drummondville.
There was no shortage of controversy in the Utah Mammoth’s 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders, as video review called two goals off the board. Regardless, the Mammoth walked away with a point in the game, propelling them back in third place in the Central Division standings.
“Probably the best power play in the NHL, if not one of the best,” coach Patrick Roy said of the Devils, sixth in the league on the man advantage at 11-for-43 (25.6%). “And I thought our guys were unbelievable on the penalty kill. The blocked shots and the way we cut those lines. And when it wasn’t there, Ilya was phenomenal.”
