Jersey Shore officials are pleading with the public to avoid swimming in the ocean when no lifeguards are around, especially now with Hurricane Erin.
A change in reporting requirements has cut the number of incidents at Jersey Shore amusement parks by more than 50%.

Cape Hatteras, NC — Hurricane Erin continued its northward churn through the Atlantic on Tuesday, threatening dangerous surf and coastal flooding from the Bahamas to the U.S. East Coast, as tropical storm warnings and storm surge alerts were issued for parts of North Carolina’s Outer Banks ahead of the storm’s closest approach late Wednesday.
Drivers in Asbury Park will have to slow down, as a new citywide 25 mph speed limit is now in effect. Main Street and Memorial Drive will see their speed limits drop from 30 mph to 25 mph, the city announced Monday. All other streets in the city already had 25 mph speed limits.
