Jill Sobule, the singer-songwriter whose 1995 single "I Kissed a Girl" was a national chart hit, has been identified as the woman killed in a house fire in Woodbury on Thursday morning.

Jill Sobule, the award-winning singer-songwriter whose witty and poignant writing first attracted widespread attention with the gay-themed song “I Kissed a Girl,” has died in a house fire.

She was then signed by Atlantic and released “Jill Sobule” in 1995 — with “I Kissed a Girl” — and a follow-up album, “ Happy Town,” in 1997. Atlantic did not keep her on contract.
