Chris Gotterup beat Hideki Matsuyama in a play-off to win the Phoenix Open. American Gotterup, who started the final round four shots behind overnight leader Matsuyama, shot five birdies in his last six holes to card a seven-under-par 64 and finish on 16 under.
As Matsuyama had a woeful round with the driver, leading to two final-hole stumbles, Gotterup earned his second win of the year, just four events into the PGA Tour season.
Matsuyama had to back off two shots on the 18th hole because of audible noises from the crowd before ultimately losing his bid for a third WM Phoenix Open title to a walk-off birdie by Chris Gotterup.
The 2026 Waste Management Phoenix Open comes to a close on Super Bowl Sunday as the players take the course for the final round at TPC Scottsdale.
The 16th hole at the WM Phoenix Open is one of the most exciting on the PGA Tour, both for fans and players. The appropriately named Party Hole has played host to many iconic moments over the years, with this year’s competition being no different.
CBS has the golf coverage, while NBC has the Big Game. The WM Phoenix Open live TV coverage is scheduled to go until 6 p.m. ET (4 p.m. Arizona time). The Super Bowl kickoff about 6:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. Arizona time) so that gives a potential playoff about 30 minutes to wrap up.
Entering the final round, two of top contenders at the 2026 WM Phoenix Open are both Japanese: Youngster Ryo Hisatsune and his idol, Hideki Matsuyama.
