Maryland politicians condemned antisemitism while Jewish community leaders vowed to continue “spreading light” after Sunday’s terror attack in Australia.
The victims range in age from 10 to 87, Australian authorities confirmed, and include religious leaders, devoted friends and beloved family members.
The incoming comptroller of New York, Mark Levine, who urged Jewish New Yorkers to attend menorah lightings earlier in the day, told the crowd that none of the public Hanukkah events throughout the city had been cancelled and that “turnout has been off the charts.”

An elevated police presence accompanied Sunday night's celebrations in Lakeview and in Lincoln Square, where members of Chabad, the same Hassidic organization that was behind Sydney's ill-fated festival at Bondi Beach, gathered to share latkes and jelly-filled donuts after the menorah lighting there.
