The suspect in the shooting, identified by police as 18-year-old John Fuentes, was taken into custody hours after the shooting during a traffic stop in Los Lunas, New Mexico, about 25 miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico State Police said during a news conference Friday evening.

A 14-year-old boy was killed and an 18-year-old is in custody. University police responded to an alarm at one of the Albuquerque campus' buildings at about 1:36 a.m. on July 25 and discovered broken windows and what appeared to be blood on the scene, New Mexico State Police Chief Troy Weisler said at news conference on the evening of July 25.

A suspect was arrested Friday in a shooting that left one person dead and another injured at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and prompted a shelter-in-place order, officials said. John Fuentes, 18, was arrested at a traffic stop Friday around 2:30 p.m. by state police officers, said Troy Weisler, New Mexico State Police chief.
