A water main break sent brown water gushing through a North Philadelphia neighborhood Monday morning, filling roadways and sidewalks. At least 50 properties were without water due to the break, but service has since been restored.

Water used for drinking or food consumption must be boiled briskly for one minute prior to use. All ice cubes should be discarded, and only boiled water should be used for making ice. The order will remain in effect until an adequate disinfectant level is established and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.
