The Prince of Wales has used his first message delivered in Welsh to wish Wales a "Happy St David's Day". Prince William pre-recorded a social media video to mark 1 March, the day Wales's patron saint is honoured and to "celebrate Wales – its history, culture and incredible people".

Prince William spoke in fluent Welsh in a new video released on social media to mark St David’s Day in Wales on Saturday, March 1.

Every March 1, people across Wales wear leeks on their shirts to celebrate St David's Day - and they do so for a simple reason.

From pulling a steam train 20 meters to typing Wales' longest place name with one finger, a flurry of Guinness World Records were broken on Saturday to mark St David's Day. Sue Taylor-Franklin and Sam Taylor, from Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf, set the female record for the fastest time to pull a narrow-gauge steam train 20m.

Prince William has delivered a St David's Day message in fluent Welsh.

“Hello, today on St David’s Day, we come together to celebrate Wales, its history, its culture and its incredible people,” William, 42, said in Welsh in a social media video shared on Saturday, March 1. “From its incredible landscapes to its language, Wales continues to inspire.”
