ROCKFORD � A dead crow found in southeast Winnebago County tested positive for West Nile virus � the first sign of the virus found in the county this year.
The first batch of mosquitoes testing positive for the virus was identified on May 9 in Rockford. In 2024, Illinois saw 69 confirmed human cases, resulting in 13 deaths.
