Tens of thousands of people in Mississippi remain in the dark in the aftermath of a severe winter storm.

As bitter cold temperatures gripped the Houston region Monday morning, some power outages were being reported in the city and suburbs.

Power has been restored to nearly 1,500 Entergy New Orleans customers who were in the dark for nearly two hours early Monday.

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KTVE/KARD) – Across Ouachita Parish, more than 47,000 residents are still without power following severe winter weather. Entergy and United Utility linemen are working around the clock to restore it as quickly as possible.

The Mississippi utility company Entergy said it was "making progress" Monday morning to restore power after more than 55,000 customers were left in the dark over the weekend.

As the extremely cold conditions are rolling across Louisiana, Entergy officials are reporting some power outages in select parishes.
