XDA Developers on MSNI built a portable Windows 11 install on an external SSD, and you can do it too
Microsoft may no longer support Windows To Go, but you can still make a portable Windows 11 installation — and it actually works okay.
We're going to show you how to do a full installation to the SSD, as well as how to boot to Windows from a microSD card. The latter will keep the original SteamOS install intact.
What? A boot ssd will still be faster. Unless you really have some strange program that will only install on a boot drive and needs the space. Anyways Win7 has been happy with my 96GB drive.
