Washington’s shift on the Ukraine war marks a major break with European allies and comes as the Trump administration aims to repair relations with Russia.

Seventeen countries in the United Nations General Assembly joined the U.S. on Monday in voting against a nonbinding resolution condemning Russia as the aggressor in the ongoing war in Ukraine — more than double the vote against a similar resolution two years ago.

The United States on Wednesday abstained from co-sponsoring a joint statement at the World Trade Organization condemning Russia's aggression in Ukraine, a diplomatic source and a Geneva trade official told Reuters.
