Victor Wembanyama looks like a changed man in the early days of the 2025-26 season, and it has a lot to do with his shot selection.
Victor Wembanyama wasn't just good during the San Antonio Spurs ' 125-92 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. He was historic as his 40 points broke Hall of Famer George Gervin's previous franchise record for the most points scored in a season-opening game.
Victor Wembanyama is back on the court after his second season was cut short due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder discovered in February. In the first game of his third NBA season Wednesday against the Mavericks, he looked better than ever.
Wembanyama would finish with a stat line of 29 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks, narrowly missing out on a triple-double, in the Spurs' 120-116 overtime victory. The 7-foot-5 superstar fouled out with 4:17 left in OT, which prevented him from registering his tenth block.
In the Spurs' regular-season opener against the Dallas Mavericks, Wembanyama simply eviscerated his competition. He went into volcano mode and spewed 40 points on 15-of-21 shooting from the field, 15 rebounds, and three blocked shots. The French native also provided several highlight reel-worthy plays that made fans drop their jaws in disbelief.
