The Land Registry will introduce digital checks it says will cut back on the simple mistakes in names or title numbers on applications that will save customers hundreds of thousands of hours a year.

Automation work to speed up HM Land Registry applications by cutting down the number of checks that caseworkers have to do will not shift liability on to conveyancers, the organisation has insisted.

Due to staffing issues during the lockdown, the Land Registry stopped publishing data and now has a backlog - even though far fewer property sales were completed during those months.
