Kristin Nelson led the Republican primary election for Alabama House District 38 on Tuesday, capturing 46.69% of the vote but falling short of the majority needed to avoid a runoff.

In Athens, one of Alabama’s fastest-growing and most prosperous cities, voters reelected their popular and accomplished Mayor Ronnie Marks to a fifth, four-year term. In another booming Huntsville area suburban city, Madison, voters elected a female mayor Ranae Bartlet. She beat two opponents without a runoff.

Pamella Bass in her lawsuit alleged that Antwon Womack, who defeated her by 25 votes, did not live in the Birmingham district he was elected to represent.
