Early voting for the Nov. 4 election began Monday in Harris County, where more than 10,700 ballots were cast in person and another 3,200-plus were returned by mail. The early voting period runs until Oct. 31, with Election Day on Nov. 4.

Other counties in Texas, including Travis County, also have experienced problems related to an update of the Texas Election Administration Management (TEAM) system.

Critics said at the time that Senate Bill 1750, authored by Sen. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, was an attempt by Republicans to exert more control over elections in a blue county in a traditionally red state. State inspectors were assigned to monitor the handling and counting of ballots in Harris County in 2024.

At Cypress BBQ joint Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott encouraged local voters to support the ballot propositions which he said would lower taxes and also asked for help to turn Harris County red.
