Trump made cracking down on illegal immigration a priority on his first day in office. He reversed many initiatives supported by former President Joe Biden, including refugee resettlement programs, a family reunification task force, and a “catch and release” policy that allowed migrants to be released while awaiting their cases in court.

Now that a date is set for the District 3 state House election, five Republican candidates are working to make themselves known ahead of the April 1 primary.

The relationship between Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republican leaders of the Florida Legislature has devolved into open hostility. In social media posts and public pronouncements this week, DeSantis has accused legislators of sabotaging his plans for strong immigration enforcement.
