Auburn retired Cam Newton’s No. 2 jersey Monday. The Carolina Panthers have only one retired jersey — the late linebacker Sam Mills’ 51.

The Carolina Panthers have a difficult relationship with Cam Newton. Despite his being their most famous player and probably their best, remaining the only MVP in team history, they're not on good terms right now. Newton isn't very present in the stadium with iconography, mentions, or anything else.

Auburn is set to officially retire Newton's number on Oct. 11, before the Tigers take on the Georgia Bulldogs at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Newton will be the fourth Tiger to have his number retired—joining Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley.
