The International Olympic Committee on Wednesday granted provisional recognition to World Boxing in a major step towards the sport's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee has taken a key step toward retaining boxing on the program for the Los Angeles Games in 2028 as it recognized a new governing body for the sport.

After running the past two Olympic competitions and cutting ties with the previous governing body, the IOC moves toward restoring the sport to the program.

The International Olympic Committee has granted recognition to World Boxing, which is a breakaway from the International Boxing Association; the move leaves the sport closer towards securing a part at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games;

Boxing is currently not part of the the ‘LA28’ sports programme, with the IOC having organised the event in the Paris Olympics last year after severing ties with the International Boxing Association (IBA).
