Big waves and whipping winds are bringing dangerous beach conditions to the Massachusetts coast, prompting closures and warnings as Hurricane Erin churned hundreds of miles offshore.

A Vermont man accused of leading Massachusetts police on a high-speed chase and dragging a state trooper was taken into custody, police said.

A suspect wanted out of Vermont who dragged a Massachusetts State trooper on I-91 in Holyoke on Tuesday has been arrested in Stamford.

This year's list highlights two Massachusetts institutions that have earned a spot among the 100 best public high schools in the nation.

The top-ranked high school in Massachusetts is once again Boston Latin School, which is also ranked 46th nationwide. U.S. News says the graduation rate is 98% at Boston Latin, with 94% of students passing at least one Advanced Placement exam.

Among all the Massachusetts schools eligible for the list, 43 percent earned a spot in the top quarter of schools nationwide.
