Three more Republican governors authorized the deployment of National Guard troops to Washington on Monday, part of President Donald Trump’s escalating show of force that he says is designed to crack down on crime and boost immigration enforcement in the nation’s capital.
Five Republican governors have now deployed National Guard soldiers to Washington, D.C., following President Donald Trump's request to send troops.
US Vice-President JD Vance and other senior members of the Trump administration were heckled as they met National Guard troops in Washington DC. Vance, along with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, visited the troops at Union Station, DC's largest rail hub, on Wednesday.
The moves come as federal agents and National Guard troops have begun to appear across the heavily Democratic city after President Trump's executive order.
