Orlando officials on Thursday condemned the state’s overnight removal of a rainbow crosswalk outside the Pulse nightclub – a commemoration of the 49 people killed at the LGBTQ-friendly nightclub in 2016.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the painting over by state workers of the crosswalk with rainbow colors often associated with LGBTQ pride was “callous” and “a cruel political act.”

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the repainting of the crosswalk near the site of the Pulse mass shooting was done "without any supporting safety data or discussion."
