A drone which crashed in a cornfield in Poland smashing windows in nearby houses was Russian. The NATO country's defence minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, confirmed the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was Russian during a press conference late on Wednesday.

Poland's Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz voiced the three most probable hypotheses regarding the overnight explosion in a village in Lublin voivodeship. His words are quoted by RMF24.

Polish officials said on Wednesday they were not ruling out that an object that exploded overnight in a field in eastern Poland was a Russian or smuggling drone, or a case of sabotage, though they had not detected anything entering Polish airspace.

Police received the call shortly after 2:00 a.m. At the scene, officers found charred debris of various sizes — metal and plastic — scattered over dozens of meters. They said the origin of the fragments has not yet been established and that the area is still being examined.
