The Los Angeles Dodgers swept the San Diego Padres in the three-game series at Dodger Stadium. Yu Darvish gave up four runs in the first inning, and the Padres were left clawing back and did so, tying the game up at four in the eighth inning. However, Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts then hit a go-ahead home run that clinched the series.

Los Angeles is now two games up in the standings, with a 71-53 record. The Dodgers are on the road for a four game series at Colorado, before these two teams meet up again next weekend, this time in San Diego. The Padres are now 69-55, and will start a four game series against the Giants on Monday.

It was billed as a potential passing of the torch, with the San Diego Padres threatening to win the National League West for the first time in 19 years. Instead, Sunday’s finale ended in a three-game sweep — and a relatively convincing one, at that.

After taking down the Padres and winning the season series on Saturday night, the Dodgers retake possession of first place in the NL West.

San Diego carried momentum into the matchup, fresh off a sweep of the San Francisco Giants, while the Dodgers had just been swept by the Los Angeles Angels heading into that series against the Padres.

The Giants (+191 underdog on the moneyline) are away versus the Padres (-232). The starting pitchers are Nick Pivetta (12-4) for the San Diego Padres, and Kai-Wei Teng (1-2) for the San Francisco Giants.

Its Monday, August 18 and the Giants (60-64) are in San Diego to take on the Padres (69-55). Robbie Ray is slated to take the mound for San Francisco against Nestor Cortes for San Diego. The Padres are coming off being swept by the Dodgers after having a chance to take the NL West lead.
