U.S. stocks drifted to a mixed finish as Wall Street and other financial markets wait for a highly anticipated meeting on Saturday between China and the United States on trade.

U.S. stocks closed mixed at the end of an unusually quiet week. The S&P 500 slipped 0.1% Friday and wound up with a loss of 0.5% for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3%, and the Nasdaq composite was little changed.

U.S. stocks ended a choppy day higher after the Federal Reserve left its main interest rate alone, as was widely expected, but also warned about rising risks for the U.S. economy.
