Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers signed a new two-year budget that will affect nearly every person in the battleground state.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers signed the state’s budget into law in the early morning hours Thursday after the state Legislature passed the bill during sessions that spanned all of Wednesday with the Assembly running into early Thursday.

Advocates in Illinois warned that people in Wisconsin still face other obstacles to accessing reproductive care.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s liberal majority struck down the state’s 176-year-old abortion ban on Wednesday, ruling 4-3 that it was superseded by newer state laws regulating the procedure, including statutes that criminalize abortions only after a fetus can survive outside the womb.

Abortion providers in the state resumed the procedure in 2023 after a judge ruled that a more recent law superseded the 176-year-old ban.
