Afghanistan have sent jitters into the Australian and South African camps in the Champions Trophy by putting England out of the tournament and announcing themselves as contenders for the two semifinal spots in Group B.

LAHORE: Tournament debutants Afghanistan sent England packing from the Champions Trophy after opener Ibrahim Zadran’s epic 177 set up their narrow eight-run victory in a Group B thriller on Wednesday. Zadran produced the highest score in the tournament’s history to help Afghanistan overcome Jofra Archer’s three early wickets and rack up 325-7.

In eighth match of ICC Champions Trophy at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Afghanistan beat England by eight runs tonight. Batting first, Afghanistan scored 325 runs for loss of 7 wickets in stipulated fifty overs. In reply, England was all out at 317 in 49.5 overs
