Torn roofs, bent poles and all sorts of debris piled in front of buildings in Butler, Missouri on Saturday (March 15) after a series of tornadoes hit the U.S. Midwest and Southeast overnight, killing at least 14 people.

Damage assessments are underway in communities across the central and eastern U.S. after a deadly multiday severe weather outbreak that began on Friday. FOX Weather Meteorologist Jane Minar has the latest.

As cleanup efforts begin after Friday’s storm, the National Weather Service continues to conduct surveys identifying the tornadoes throughout the St. Louis region.

The National Weather Service has confirmed eight tornadoes so far from Friday’s severe weather. According to NWS, the eight tornadoes are: The NWS says the EF-2 tornado that developed near Villa Ridge moved over 13 miles northeast with maximum estimated winds of 130 mph.

"The scale of devastation across our state is staggering," Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe said. "While we grieve the lives of those lost, we are also focused on action."

Violent tornadoes ripped through parts of the U.S., wiping out schools and toppling semitractor-trailers, part of a monster storm that has killed at least 40 people across six states.
