The Philadelphia Phillies’ World Series hopes took a major hit earlier this month when superstar starting pitcher Zack Wheeler was diagnosed with a blood clot.

Wheeler received the news after getting a second opinion following a procedure to remove blood clot in his throwing shoulder on Monday, the team stated. The right-hander will reportedly need 6 to 8 months to recover from the surgery.

Wheeler was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome and will require additional surgery that's expected to sideline him for six to eight months.
