ABUJA, Nigeria — The death toll from a shooting at a mosque in northwestern Nigeria has risen to 50, a local official said Wednesday. Gunmen stormed the mosque in the town of Unguwan Mantau, in Katsina state, during morning prayers on Tuesday, according to lawmaker Aminu Ibrahim.

Such attacks have become common in Nigeria’s northwestern, north-central regions, where local herders and farmers clash.

Gunmen killed at least 30 people in an attack on a mosque in northwestern Nigeria earlier this week, according to a resident and a lawmaker, with another 20 people killed in neighbouring villages.
