Penguins and Catastrophic moult! Once a year penguins go through quite the epic moult where they replace all of their old feathers at once, not a staged approach as flying (civilized 😉) birds will do. They spend time foraging before this and will aim to almost double their normal body weight because once they come ashore to moult they are unable to swim and hunt again for around 3-4 weeks so they need plenty of reserves to endure this process. Unfortunately, not all penguins are able to get up
