Spain has reached a historic milestone by powering its mainland electricity grid entirely with renewable energy. On April 16, 2025, wind, solar, hydropower, and other renewable sources together supplied 100% of Spain’s mainland electricity demand. Wind energy led the mix, generating nearly 46% of total power, followed by solar at around 27% and hydropower at approximately 23%. At 11:15 a.m., electricity production from wind and solar alone exceeded national demand, a rare achievement for a large
